LONG-TERM FINANCIAL HEALTH
I WILL continue to oppose decisions that negatively impact or do not optimize the long-term financial health of our community
I will put forth a motion that an independent third-party economic impact study be performed on any initiative valued at more than $5 million dollars and where the decision has a considerable long-term economic impact on the community. This would not include most public works road, water & wastewater projects. In this term of council, I motioned that an economic impact study be undertaken to determine the best location for the casino and new library twin pad arena and in both cases, my motions did not receive a seconder.
In the case of the casino, a local developer personally paid $30,000.00 to have an economic impact study completed by a very respected company related to the location of the casino and the council chose not to review the document. The study clearly identified that there were alternative locations that would have generated a greatly improved economic impact for Wasaga Beach.
