I WILL work to improve health care, safety, and affordable housing
Health Care - I WILL lobby to reopen the Ramblewood walk-in clinic that was closed in this current term of council and enhance our doctor recruitment program. If it is not yet implemented by the election date I will lobby for a special needs transit bus service
Affordable / Attainable / Appropriate Housing - Many confuse social housing with affordable housing and many see the need for lower-cost housing, however in some cases required appropriate housing is not about lower cost at all.
I WILL lobby to put bylaws in place that require every developer to make 15% of units in the affordable/attainable category. It is proven that integrating affordable/attainable housing throughout the community is most effective. The new official plan is to include five nodes of intensification that would also include a community improvement plan (CIP) allowing us to incentivize single-level elevator access condominiums up to six stories. In fact we are so far behind demand in this category I would support incentives town wide as It would also slow down the urban sprawl we are experiencing. This would free up existing single detached homes as many senior residents living in large square footage bungalows would downsize into higher density condominiums. In addition we need to work quickly to supply quality workforce housing for medium to lower wage earners. If a couple both working full time in this wage category cannot afford to live in our community we will be on a path to far greater challenges in the future.
