The Environment - I WILL put forth a motion to create a standing committee of council to advise the council on environmental mitigation and adaptation best practices undertaken by other municipalities and to budget the required funding to create a comprehensive action plan.

 

In addition, I would recommend that incentives be put in place to make new developments greener and most importantly that the municipality lead by example by making an annual investment in upgrading town-owned facilities to be more energy efficient. Recently the municipality of North Bay received $26 million in government funding towards the construction of a new community centre and their plan to make the facility net zero green house gas emissions was a major contributing factor in receiving the funding. When I motioned to delay the construction of our new library / arena so that we could strengthen our grant application and re-apply for the next round of funding it was defeated by a vote of 6 to 1. By the way the 60 million cost for our new library / arena does not include solar power.
